Method of Documentation and Measured Drawings

Project 1 // SKETCHBOOK & JOURNAL

This project is an on-site exercise where students have to sketch and documents the physical and intangible qualities of the buildings as well as the immediate context of the site. It can be from an element as broad as the urban planning itself down to the smallest detail of the ornaments used in the building.

The sketches are to comprise at least 2 each of these categories:

  • The Genius Loci

  • Poetic Quality

  • Cultural Attributes

  • Technical /Construction details

This project was carried out throughout the semester where we were be assigned to measure and document a historical / heritage building and translate all the data into a set of drawings and a model. Each group had to only measure one particular building assigned by the lecturer. Apart from doing the measuring exercise on site, we had to do additional research in order to piece together all the important data about the building.

This project aims to produce a set of measured drawings of historical buildings or structures in a specific location. A report containing important and historical information of the buildings will complement the drawings. It is an on-site exercise where students are required to execute fieldwork and hands-on measurement exercise

REFLECTION

Throughout the whole project, I've learnt to work in a really big group and understood that a good teamwork is the key to every achievement in this project. I also learnt how to do a measurement correctly and sketch it out to document it out. Nevertheless, it was a great opportunity that has been given to me and I'm really grateful for having such great team and lecturers who have been guiding us throughout the project.
